Viva Velo Carbon Offset Policy

Viva Velo is keen to ensure that it minimises the impact of its trips and tours on the environment.  As part of these efforts it has partnered with Clear a QAS-Certified Carbon Offset provider. Viva Velo offsets the CO2 generated by its annual operations - including client flights - with Clear through projects it sponsors, primarily in developing countries.  While carbon offsetting should never be the first response to climate change as we all have a responsibility to measure our carbon footprint and reduce it as best we can, this will always leave us with some kind of footprint. That’s why offsetting plays a vital role.

Carbon offsetting invests in projects which reduce emissions even further elsewhere. Because emissions disperse throughout the atmosphere, your net carbon footprint becomes smaller even if the reduction happens somewhere else.

Clear invests in carbon reduction projects in the developing world for three reasons:

  • Firstly it helps those who are least able to help themselves.

  • Secondly it achieves the most reduction for the money you spend.

  • And lastly the first world is responsible for most global warming anyway, so they (and we) feel it is fairer to invest in the developing world given the moral perspective.

You can find out more about these projects by clicking the ‘Learn More’ button below. Viva Velo will be introducing a carbon offsetting programme for its clients’s travel to and from its tours and camps as in the process of adapting its booking system to permit this. In the meantime you can offset the environmental impact of any flights, train and car journeys you may take to join our tours on the Clear site by clicking the ‘Offset my Impact’ button also below.  For more information on carbon offsetting and Clear you can check out their FAQ page.

You can see our Carbon Offset certificate for our financial year ending 1st October 2019 below.
