Viva Velo have been doing our best to keep you going through the current crisis with our series of blogs about great places to cycle when this crisis is over. Now we want to do more. So we have launched our
‘Who Is Your Covid-19 Hero?’ - Not for Profit Cycle Camp for Key Workers
We want you to nominate a key worker - anyone working in health and social care, in a supermarket, in delivery, in the emergency services or has been keeping vital utilities flowing. Or perhaps someone who has maybe kept a business going despite all the odds - in short, anyone whose work often goes unsung, who’s put their well-being at risk, but on which – as corona virus has shown us – we all totally rely.
So if you know someone who’s really kept things going, and who’s a keen cyclist we’d like to say a heartfelt thank you, by offering you or your nominee:
One of five free places on a 5 day Viva Velo Mallorca cycling camp – plus, should they wish to bring a partner or friend, a place for them at our special ‘not-for-profit’ rate. In fact, we are offering another 100 places on our Mallorca camp at our not-for-profit rate of just £300 for all key workers if they are not lucky enough to gain a free place.
What does 'Not-for-profit' mean?
This offer is completely non-profit-making. Viva Velo will not only fund all accommodation, transfers and other costs for the free places (excluding flights), but also ensure that not-for-profit places are offered at below cost. Viva Velo ride leaders will be giving their time for free and all overheads, administrative and organisational costs will be covered by Viva Velo so you can be assured that: Viva Velo will not make a penny in profit from these trips.

Not a key worker but want to help?
If we could, we would make all these trips entirely free – not just the five we are donating as our personal ‘thank you’. Unfortunately this has been a tough time for those of us in the travel business so we are not able to do that on our own - but you can help. If you want to help us reduce the prices of these trips even further, then please donate by clicking the link to our crowd funder page below. All monies raised will be used to further subsidise key worker places. The more you give, the more we can subsidise the places. Why are we doing this?
Unfortunately, we are not qualified to start manufacturing medical equipment or perform other more vital duties. We know a cycling holiday is a luxury, but one we think will be much-needed after this crisis is over, and well-deserved by all those who are keeping us all going at this trying time. This is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to those working so hard for us all and hopefully provide a little light in the current darkness not just for them but also for our hard-hit partners and suppliers in Mallorca. We are, after all, a cycle tour company – it’s what we do.
Full details of the offer
All places in Mallorca will be for five-night stays on camps starting in October 2020 and running until October 2021. All places (both free and not-for-profit) will be exclusive of flights and be based on sharing a twin room. Not-for-profit places will cost just £300 per person. Specific dates will be confirmed as soon as possible when we have more visibility on the progress of the Covid 19 crisis. There will be a total limit of 105 not-for-profit places available, five of which will be reserved for friends and family of key workers who gain a free place with the additional 100 being allocated on a first come, first served basis to all key worker nominees. Winners of the free places will be chosen on 31st August 2020 or whenever we reach the limit of not-for-profit places available, whichever is the sooner.
