Adriatic Tour

Astounding scenery under azure skies

This was a bespoke tour we designed in 2019 for a small group of 12 clients. Initially they approached us with a view to visiting just Croatia but after some research we presented them with this proposal mooting the idea of a broader tour. SMCC Croatia Proposal

One of the advantages of using a specialist bespoke cycle tour operator is they can suggest things you maybe haven’t though of. Awakened to the possibilities of touring the region rather than confining themselves to just one country the clients opted for the trip which became The Adriatic Tour

Taking in three countries, Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro, in five days in a route covering some 550 kilometres it is a fantastic trip, full of, not just great cycling, but history, culture and stunning scenery.  If you are in any doubt, Rob Penn, author of It’s All About The Bike, explains the attractions better than we can.

We rode some spectacular coastal and mountain roads and sampled plenty of local colour, food and drink.  It was a tour for a cyclist who likes a challenge but is happy to kick back and relax in the evenings.

“Just had a great few days with Viva Velo. The ride leaders were spot on. Organisation excellent, Dyll is very focused on ensuring that each and every rider has a great time. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend highly. Use Viva Velo and you won’t be disappointed. Thanks guys.”

Rob Penn on cycling in the Adriatic

Rob Penn, author of 'It's all about the bike' had this to say about cycling in the Adriatic

“Starting and finishing in Dubrovnik, we cycled a loop through a corner of Croatia, across Bosnia-Herzegovina and from the top of Montenegro to the bottom. When we left the coast and crossed the border into Bosnia-Herzegovina, the traffic tailed off. . .heading west towards Mostar, there were almost no cars to be seen. Instead, we rode past tractors chugging out of the woods with trailers full of coppiced oak and hornbeam, herdsmen ambling along the verges to the sound of goat bells, donkeys and conical haystacks in fields. It felt like we had vaulted back in time, to the beginning of the 20th century. . . Leaving Mostar, we climbed 1,000 metres over 15km out of the Neretva valley, past the crumbling, medieval walls of Blagaj fort, to reach a vast, bare upland plain. In Sutjeska national park we flew down through a beautiful, deep canyon beside the Sutjeska river, through pools of dazzling sunlight, beneath hillsides covered in ancient forests of pines and beech. The descent to Kotor was spellbinding: the 25 hairpin bends afford some of the best views I have ever enjoyed from a saddle.”
