Costa Blanca

from the mountains to the sea

1 - 7 October 2024

The Costa Blanca is famed for its tourist beaches and a climate which offers over 300 days of sunshine a year and attracts those summer visitors.  And it is the same great weather which allows cyclists to ride pretty much all year round.  At the time of our trip the weather should be like pleasant summer days in the UK.  Add in the fantastic terrain inland from the coast and you can understand why so many professional teams use the region in early and late season for their training camps.  The region has also often featured in the Vuelta a España.  The main centres for cycling are the city of Denia and further to the south, the town of Calpe and we have chosen to base ourselves between the two near the small town of Javia.  This location gives us easy access to the climbs of the interior where winding roads rise through rocky mountain passes and afford fantastic views over the valleys below as well as the coastal plain which offers some pleasant flatter rides.  The road surfaces are almost all fantastic and in the interior are wonderfully traffic free. Even the busier coastal routes will be comparatively quiet in October.  In addition, the region is served by Alicante airport, which is approximately a two and a half hour flight from the UK with a transfer time of just over an hour to our base in Javier.

For more information on cycling in the Costa Brava check out Epic Road Rides where Viva Velo is featured.

“Highly recommend Viva Velo - I worked closely with Dyll to create a bespoke 6 day package for a small corporate group. The planning process was well managed and easy, no request was inconvenient, and the trip itself was fantastic. Amanda and Trevor looked after our group extremely well and they had a brilliant time. A big thank you to all the team!”
