Vosges & Black Forest

The Rhine’s best-kept cycling secrets

The mountains of the Vosges and the Black Forest on the other side of the Rhine are similar in geological formation and are characterized by forests on their lower slopes, above which are open pastures and rounded summits, but don’t let this fool you into thinking they don’t present a challenge for the cyclist. We were introduced to the delights the area has to offer cyclists by a client whose family hails from the region and who commissioned the trip for himself and some friends.

They climbs may not have the grandeur of their more famous Alpine cousins but they offer some hugely worthwhile cycling in some stunning scenery.  When we originally looked to design the trip it was with a point-to-point tour in mind, but having researched the area further we thought there was more value in riding out from a single base each side of the border with a linking flatter day in between to provide a little respite and a chance to relax in the famous restorative baths of Badenweiler.  And so it proved with two excellent days cycling on the French side of the border and an epic final day riding in the Black Forest.

“This is an exceptional team who each provide a different skill set with excellent knowledge in their specialist area but overall provide really great support. They are also very kind and decent people too who care a lot about the quality of what they provide.”
